How to Use
New to the world of Photoshop? No sweat, my pet. I’m here to help!
What are Photoshop Actions?
Photoshop Actions are handy files that pre-record a set of commands that can later be played over and over again with the click of a button.
Actions are especially helpful when you want to achieve a certain look, but are not fully comfortable with Photoshop’s many features. Or, if you just don’t have the time to learn.
Pictured below is the Action Palette in Photoshop. Follow these directions to install Action sets (.atn files) into your version of Photoshop 7.0 and up:
-
1. FILE LOCATION
Save the .atn file to a folder of your choosing. Photoshop automatically stores actions in a specified folder.
For me it looks like this:
C:Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit)/Presets/Actions/ -
2. LOAD THE ACTIONS
In Photoshop, open the Actions palette.
Window > Actions OR ALT + F9
Click the drop-down menu in the top upper-right hand corner of the palette window.
Select “Load Actions” from the menu and navigate to the folder you have stored the .atn file.
-
3. TWEAK TO TASTE
I leave all actions unflattened so you can tweak to taste. Many of the actions work well together. Most work best on higher resolution images.
